In addition to being a photographer, I have long been engaged with visual and performing arts as a painter and a lighting designer for the theatre. I have a fascination with tactile, manipulated and storied surfaces, and the interplay between shadow and light, and rhythm and shape.

When shooting, the overarching question I most often ask myself is if the photograph tells a story, or makes the viewer wonder about what lies behind the image: traces of a dancer's gestures left on marley dance-floor, brash echoes of inner-city graffiti, remnants of a life, or a story. I'm always seeking a different perspective.

Sometimes, though, my photos are just about a simple shape or texture, and nothing more.
